Peak Performance Buoyancy Diver
Buoyancy is the single skill that separates good divers from great ones. The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy (PPB) specialty teaches you to hover effortlessly, reduce air consumption, move efficiently, and protect the reef — in just one day.
It’s one of the most practical specialties available, and the results are immediate. By the end of your second dive, most students are hovering motionless in mid-water, using noticeably less air than they did at the start of the day.
Prerequisite: PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent). Min age 12.
Who Is the PPB Course For?
- Recently certified divers who want to build confidence and technique quickly
- Experienced divers who know their buoyancy isn’t as good as it could be
- Any diver planning to dive sites like Sail Rock or Chumphon Pinnacle where precise buoyancy protects the reef
- Divers looking to reduce their air consumption and extend bottom time
What You’ll Learn
eLearning (completed online before arrival):
- How to calculate your ideal weighting for different environments
- How lung volume and breathing technique control buoyancy and depth
- Body position and streamlining for efficient movement
- Fin techniques and equipment considerations for precision buoyancy
In the Water (2 dives):
- Weighting check and fine-tuning with your instructor
- Hovering in multiple positions — horizontal, vertical, inverted
- Depth control through breath alone, without touching the BCD inflator
- Moving through the water without disturbing the reef or sediment

FAQ
Absolutely — it's one of the best courses to do right after your OWD. The habits you build early will serve you for your entire diving life.
Yes. Proper weighting, breathing control, and streamlined positioning all directly reduce air consumption. Most divers see a measurable improvement within 2 dives.
In most cases, yes — the 2 PPB dives are conducted at the same sites as our regular tours. Ask us about scheduling when you book.
If you haven't specifically trained your buoyancy, yes. Most recreational divers develop bad habits — over-weighting, using the BCD to manage depth, fin-kicking the reef. The PPB course corrects all of these with guided practice.
