Chumphon Pinnacle is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand — and one of the best advanced dive sites in all of Southeast Asia. A series of granite pinnacles rising from 30m to around 14m below the surface, the site is blanketed in vivid pink anemones, swept by currents that bring in extraordinary concentrations of marine life.
This is a bucket-list dive — the kind that experienced divers talk about for years.
Why Dive Chumphon Pinnacle?
- Anemone carpet — the pinnacle’s surfaces are covered wall-to-wall in pink and orange anemone fish, creating one of the most visually dramatic underwater landscapes in Thailand
- Schooling pelagics — massive aggregations of fusiliers, snappers, batfish, barracuda, and bigeye trevally are a consistent feature
- Whale shark encounters — Chumphon Pinnacle is one of the top 3 whale shark sites in Thailand; sightings occur year-round
- Depth and structure — multiple pinnacles from 14m to 30m give both Advanced and Open Water divers plenty to explore
- Grouper and species diversity — giant grouper, bumphead parrotfish, and sea snakes are regular encounters
Dive Site Details
Chumphon Pinnacle comprises several granite towers spread across a 200m area. The shallowest point is around 14m; the deepest reaches 30m. Currents can be moderate to strong — this is what attracts the marine life, but it means the site is best enjoyed by Advanced Open Water certified divers who are comfortable with drift conditions.
Open Water Divers can dive the site to their 18m limit, where the majority of the anemone coverage and most of the fish life is concentrated. Advanced certification opens the full depth and the more exposed structures.
