The PADI Divemaster is your entry into the professional world of scuba diving. As a PADI Divemaster you’re qualified to lead certified divers on dive tours, assist instructors during courses, supervise dive activities, and work at dive operations anywhere in the world.

Prerequisites

Before starting the Divemaster course you’ll need:

  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification
  • PADI Rescue Diver certification
  • Emergency First Response certification within the last 24 months (we offer the EFR course if needed)
  • Minimum 40 logged dives
  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Medical clearance signed by a doctor (within 12 months)

Course Curriculum

1. Knowledge Development

Dive theory to professional standard: physics, physiology, decompression, equipment, the environment, dive planning, risk management and emergency procedures, the Divemaster’s role and responsibilities, and fundamentals of running a dive centre.

2. Water Skills & Stamina

Watermanship assessment, demonstration of 24 core dive skills to instructor-quality standard, and practical rescue and emergency response exercises.

3. Practical Application & Workshops

Assisting during confined and open water training dives, conducting Discover Scuba Diving programs, delivering pre-dive briefings, mapping a dive site, leading certified divers on guided tours, and running search and recovery workshops.

4. Internship

Real dive centre experience — day-to-day supervision of dive activities, assisting instructors with student programs, and customer management in a live dive operation.

5. Final Assessment

Written knowledge development exams and practical competency assessment across all Divemaster-level standards.

After the Divemaster

The Divemaster is the entry requirement for the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). Many Silent Divers DM graduates continue directly into the IDC and become fully certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors — opening global teaching opportunities.

Divemasters lead certified divers and assist instructors during courses, but cannot independently teach or certify new divers.
