Enriched Air Diver
The PADI Enriched Air Diver (EANx / Nitrox) specialty is one of the most popular and practical certifications in recreational diving — and you can complete it in one day in Koh Samui.
Breathing Nitrox (oxygen-enriched air at 32% or 36%) extends your no-decompression limits, meaning more bottom time and shorter surface intervals between dives. On a multi-dive day at Sail Rock or Koh Tao, that extra time underwater makes a real difference.
Once certified, you get free Nitrox fills on all Silent Divers dive tours. The course typically pays for itself in a few trips.
Why Get Nitrox Certified in Koh Samui?
The Gulf of Thailand’s dive sites — Sail Rock, Chumphon Pinnacle, Koh Tao — involve moderate depths (18–30m) where Nitrox genuinely extends your bottom time. Certified Nitrox divers on our tours can typically spend 15–25 minutes longer underwater than those breathing standard air.
Nitrox is also commonly used by:
- Divers who want to reduce nitrogen loading on multi-day dive trips
- PADI Advanced Open Water Divers heading to deeper sites
- Anyone completing the PADI Open Water course who wants to maximise their early dives
What the Course Involves
This is primarily a knowledge and theory course — there’s no mandatory open water dive, though we recommend combining it with a dive tour to practise analysing and logging your own Nitrox tanks.
eLearning (completed online before arrival) covers:
- Oxygen physiology and the benefits of Nitrox
- How to plan a Nitrox dive using a dive computer or tables
- Gas analysis — how to test your Nitrox mixture before each dive
- Nitrox exposure limits and how to stay within them
Practical skills:
- Analysing a Nitrox cylinder with an oxygen analyser
- Logging your gas mix and setting your dive computer
What's Included
- PADI eLearning materials
- PADI certification fees

FAQ
Nitrox is simply air with a higher percentage of oxygen (typically 32% or 36% vs 21% in standard air). At recreational depths it's considered safer than standard air in terms of decompression risk, and is used by divers worldwide daily.
At 20m depth, a Nitrox 32% diver can stay approximately 45 minutes vs 30 minutes on air — a 50% increase in no-decompression time. Results vary by depth and individual.
Yes — and we recommend it. We offer a bundled OWD + Nitrox package. You'll benefit from extended bottom time right from your very first certified dives.
Most modern dive computers handle Nitrox. We include a dive computer rental on all tours — speak to us about Nitrox settings when booking.
Nitrox has a maximum operating depth based on the oxygen percentage in your mix. Your PADI Enriched Air certification teaches you exactly how to calculate and stay within these limits.
