Emergency First Responder
The PADI Emergency First Responder (EFR) course teaches you to respond confidently to life-threatening emergencies — CPR, first aid, and AED use — in a practical, stress-free environment. No formal exam, no diving experience needed.
It’s a one-day course open to everyone — divers and non-divers alike. And it’s a prerequisite for the PADI Rescue Diver course.
Why Learn CPR and First Aid in Koh Samui?
These skills matter everywhere — at the beach, on a dive boat, in a hotel, at home. Koh Samui is a remote island environment where emergency services can take time to arrive. Knowing how to perform CPR or manage a spinal injury while waiting for help could genuinely save a life.
The EFR is also a requirement for the PADI Divemaster and IDC professional programs.
What You’ll Learn
Module 1 — Primary Care (CPR)
- Performing effective CPR on an adult
- Managing an unresponsive, non-breathing casualty
- Using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

Module 2 — Secondary Care (First Aid)
- Patient assessment and emergency scene management
- Injury management — sprains, fractures, dislocations, and cuts
- Managing bleeding and suspected spinal injuries
- Recognising and responding to shock
- Record-keeping and handing over to emergency services
Course Format
The EFR takes approximately 4–8 hours depending on group size. You’ll train with practice manikins, AED trainers, and first aid kits in a hands-on, instructor-led environment. There’s no written exam — completion is based on practical demonstration of skills and a knowledge review.
Your EFR certification is valid for 24 months and can be renewed with a short refresher at any time.
Not a diver? The EFR is open to anyone — parents, hotel staff, yacht crew, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency.
